Internet Withdrawls

It's been a week now, and my baby is still in the shop. I should have went with MY computer guys, not my husband's friends. It was done within a day or two with them, but these guys sound like a bunch of potheads. They are a legitimate business though, and I'm saving $50, but I'm sitting here on his buddy's laptop questioning is that $50 REALLY worth it?!

I've dealt with withdrawals from depression medication and pain meds, but this has got to be far worse! I have enjoyed the extra time with my family. Caleb and me decided I wouldn't spend so much time online when my computer is fixed. His attitude has greatly improved this past week! I've figured out that I need to balance life a little better when I get my computer home.

I was seriously thinking of not coming back, I thought it would be nice to have all the free time I wanted. But, after a few days I realize why I do what it is I do. It's not a real job, but having to meet certain deadlines and a little paycheck every month sure did help in more ways than one.

I'm anxiously awaiting for my computer to be released. I've had to go through 4,000 emails since I haven't been online in so long. I can't wait to come back. Missing yall!

Technical Difficulties

My email account was hacked into over the weekend, and now my computer has shut down. My hubby's buddy is repairing it, and I'm on his laptop right now.

If there is any email from me-Kim@Mission Mommy or bkkihega(at)yahoo.com that seems weird, don't click on the links. I was alerted to this happening over the weekend, and just want you to know what's going on. I should be back by Wednesday!

Got Milk? Horizon Organic Chocolate Milk {Giveaway}

Horizon Organic lowfat chocolate milk provides a great tasting way to add calcium and DHA to your family's diet. DHA Omega-3 is an important nutrient that helps support heart, brain and eye health, and it¹s available in lowfat half gallons.

DHA is important right from the start of a baby's life. Pregnant mothers are encouraged to get the right amount, and it's vital in an infant's development. As your baby grows into a toddler, DHA is recommended for their fast growing minds and body. It's recommended that a healthy, active 3 year old get 150mg DHA daily. Unfortunately, most are only getting a small fraction (19mg) of what they need for optimal brain development.

Flavored milk provides the same essential nutrients as white milk, and can help meet your child's calcium requirements. In a study, 66% of school-age children choose flavored milk over plain. Horizon Organic Milk Plus DHA Omega-3 is fortified with a natural, 100 percent vegetarian and sustainable source of DHA - a safe, wholesome, delicious way to bring more of this important nutrient into your family's diet.

DHA belongs to a category of healthy fatty acids known as Omega-3's. Found in high concentrations in the tissues of the brain and eye, DHA Omega-3 is thought to help support healthy function in these areas. DHA has also been shown to help support heart health. Even as we get older, DHA continues to support our eye health, mental acuity, and heart health.

Feeding Penny Pig Book:: Making Kids Money Savvy {Giveaway}

Mimi's Fun House encourages grandparents to have fun with their grandkids. Even though you probably spoil your grandchildren rotten, grandparents always seem to have a special ability in teaching important lessons. Mimi's steps in to help you tune in to these special features a grandparent can possess with fun resources such as books, games, clothing, and other fun valuable resources.

In the book, Feeding Penny Pig, Mimi is in search of the perfect gift for her granddaughter Laney. She spots gold in the special pig, Penny, who teaches Laney the value of responsibility by earning the coins to feed her.

This book is ideal for children ages 4-8 who are ready to learn the value of a dollar, earning an allowance, and responsibility.

Along with this book, you and your grandchild can build a piggy bank to help teach responsibility.

Plastic Bottle Piggy Bank

Materials:
Plastic Bottle – Bleach bottle, milk gallon bottle, etc.
Pink pipe cleaner
Pink paint for plastic (Spray paint if possible)
Decals to decorate Piggy (Hearts, letters for child’s name, pom poms, etc.
4 spools for legs
2 large Eyes
Plastic Cement

Instructions:
  • Cut a slit in the top for the coins to drop in.
  • Be sure to put down plastic for painting and spray paint outside if you use spray paint.
  • Spray paint bottle. Spray cap separately. This may take more than one coat. Don’t worry if it runs a little because the child will cover most of the bank with the decals.
  • When the paint is dry, cement the 2 eyes under the handle.
  • Put the top on the bottle for the snout and mark it with black marker for holes in the snout.
  • Cut a small hole in the back of the bottle for the tail. Curl the pipe cleaner and insert into the hole.
  • Let the child decorate with decals. Preferably, put the name and then cover the pig with decals from the craft store.
  • Cement small pom poms around to cover any spots that need to be covered.
There are many more fun activities like this you can try with your child at Mimi's blog

Where to buy: Feeding Penny Pig can be purchased at Mimi's Fun House for $14.95 or at Amazon for as low as $11.66.

Flip Along Fun Book {Giveaway}

Flip Along Fun is an interactive children's book that stimulates the imagination and provides hours of fun for young children ages 2-6 years old.

Kids can create their own story with the interchangeable story panels. The book contains 3 sections each containing 9 panels each. To make a story, your child first chooses a panel in the first section, then the second, and match the 3rd panel to the number of animals in the first two. When the animal pictures match up, the numbers will add up!

Flip Along Fun is a valuable educational tool that parents and teachers can use to:
  • Teach matching and counting
  • Introduce rhymes
  • Identify colors and animals
  • Demonstrate sentence structure
  • Stimulate creativity
  • Promote logical thinking

It's an excellent book for toddlers learning numbers and matching. Your child will be counting cats, and bunnies, and bears oh my! Allie never bores of this book, as she can create a variety of stories to her liking. DJ loves the silliness found in this book. He helps Allie out to make a story since he's got numbers and matching down packed. Then, my oldest can read it aloud. I love it because I can get all my children involved in the same book.

    Hasbro Family Game Night 2

    Hasbro Family Game Nights allows up to 4 players to enjoy classic board games such as Jenga and Pictureka on the Wii in two different ways. The first is "original" play- the way we play them as a board game. The second is the most fun, the "remix", which puts a whole new fast-paced spin on the classics.

    My son, Caleb's, favorite area of the game is the Family Game Show mode, which combines all aspects into a game show style setting where you compete against the other players. You can use you Wii Mii characters in the game too!

    Throughout the game, you can collect different Mr. Potato Head pieces to mix and match your favorite Potato Head characters. Ultimately, your goal is to collect parts for the Golden Potato to be crowned Game Show Champion!

    This game is so much fun, and there's no clean up after! I must admit that this is my personal favorite Wii game to date, and love to play Connect 4x4 Remix. Me and my oldest compete against the computer characters, and most of the time we win! It's hard to find a game that the whole family can enjoy that makes everyone including Mom and Dad use their thinking skills.

    You can purchase Family Game Night 2 for Wii at Amazon.com for as low as $35.99 new and wherever games are sold.

    Identifying the Silent Killer:: Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector Giveaway {4 Winners}

    Carbon Monoxide is odorless, colorless, toxic gas. Because we're not able to easily identify it, it can kill you before you even know it's in your home. At low levels, its symptoms resemble that of the flu.

    Dubbed the silent killer, Carbon Monoxide kills 500 people and sends 20,000 more to the hospital each year.

    Common Sources of Carbon Monoxide
    • Car left running in garage
    • Clogged chimney
    • Gas or wood-burning fireplace
    • Improperly installed kitchen range or vent
    • Portable Kerosene or gas heaters

    CO is produced and emitted by incomplete burning of fuel, such as propane, kerosene, gasoline, oil, natural gas, wood and charcoal; and because it is odorless and colorless, people can be exposed to CO without even knowing it. However, CO poisoning is avoidable and preventable if the necessary safety measures are taken.

    UL recommends a three-part strategy that families can easily use to protect themselves and their loved ones from the poisonous gas: INSPECT, PROTECT and DETECT. They have an extensive list of safety tips we can follow to protect our loved ones from the silent killer. Some tips are:
    • Have a qualified technician INSPECT fuel-burning appliances once a year
    • PROTECT your home by purchasing and installing a CO alarm
    • Be prepared should your CO alarm DETECT a problem
    Know the signs of CO poisoning  CO poisoning may be the cause of flu-like symptoms such as headaches, tightness of chest, dizziness, fatigue, confusion and breathing difficulties. Because CO poisoning often causes a victim’s blood pressure to rise, the victim’s skin may take on a pink or red cast.

    Only 50% of Americans have CO alarms in their home. And, 61% of Americans cannot identify any signs of CO poisoning risks in their home.  Commissioned by Underwriters Laboratories – a 115-year-old product safety organization, the survey overall finds that Americans might be over confident in their ability to protect themselves and their family from CO poisoning. Additional results of the study include:
    • 60% of Americans are confident they can prevent CO poisoning, but approximately two-thirds don’t know which common household items like hot water heaters  (70%), charcoal grills (56%), and portable generators (54%), and can potentially emit CO
    • 80% of consumers can’t identify that rusting on flue pipes – one of the most telling signs – is in fact a risk of CO poisoning in the home
    • More people said they can name two “American Idol” judges (56%) than two items in the home that emit CO (45%)
    • 62% of Americans don’t know that the flu – including the H1N1 – is the most comparable to the symptoms of CO poisoning

    Kidde has been making Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms with electrochemical sensing technology for years. All of Kidde’s CO alarm products – from basic units to premium CO alarms – include the company’s patented Nighthawk™ electrochemical CO sensor. Kidde battery-powered alarms are easy to install, and keep working even if there is a power outage. Alarm comes with a 5 year limited warranty. The Kidde CO detector provides 7 years of continuous operation. It will automatically alert you when its time to replace.

    Where to Buy: Kidde Basic Carbon Monoxide alarm with Electrochemical Sensor can be purchased online at Amazon.com for around $24. You can also check Lowe's, Home Depot, Target, and Walmart for availability.

    GIVEAWAY
    To help spread the word about how UL is helping keep families safe from dangerous CO poisoning in their home, we're giving away 4 Kidde alarms. Here's how you can enter to win.  (Required Entry must be completed before any additional entries can be made.)

    Required Entry: Visit UL.com and tell me something you've learned from their advice on Carbon Monoxide.

    Extra Entries: Leave a separate comment for each additional entry.

    What Would You Do With an Extra $100 Bucks?

    Kodak and JuiceBoxJungle asked me what I would do with an extra $100.There are so many things that I could do, but I'd have to choose the necessities for us. We've been struggling to make ends meet since my husband was temporarily out of work from his motorcycle accident.

    At the moment, we're all in need of some new clothes. I'd go on a shopping spree for jeans for everyone in my family. What would you do with an extra $100? Even though I'd love to get my hair done, it hasn't been cut in years, or take the family out to eat, I know we could use some new clothes more than any of those things.

    Kodak sponsored me to write this post.

    Super Bowl Snack Ideas {Football Snack Bowl Giveaway}

    It's a big weekend for football fans this weekend. Sports fans will be gathered in living rooms across America to cheer on their favorite team in the Super Bowl this Sunday. If friends are gathering at your home, or it's just the family, there are several snack options available for you that are delicious and healthy.

    • Pizza Bites: Take an Archer Farms Simply Balanced pizza, such as Mediterranean Style Vegetable, bake as directed and then cut pizza into snackable, bite-sized pieces.  A great way to get an easy serving of nutrient-packed vegetables.
    • Garlic or Red Pepper Hummus: Simply serve with whole grain crackers, such as Archer Farms Simply Balanced whole grain eight grain crackers and veggie sticks.  Hummus is packed with great flavor and health benefits, with chickpeas being an excellent source of fiber.
    • Chips and Dip: Offer Archer Farms organic blue corn tortilla chips and organic mango peach salsa for a snack with a little kick.  As an added health benefit, all products in the Archer Farms collection have zero grams of added trans fats.
    •  Fruit: Nothing is easier – or healthier – then serving a variety of fruit.  Arrange the fruit in a festive Super Bowl-style bowl with low fat yogurt and honey for a dip and watch it disappear!  Yogurt contains active live cultures and probiotics which promote digestive health and boost the immune system.

    Rocketconcepts creates novelty products that are fun yet functional. They have a football snack bowl to delight fans of all ages.The Football snack dish will make them smile as this life-like football opens up at the push of a button and plays the FOX NFL theme song.

    We just got our football in last night and Allie couldn't wait to show everyone what it did. Allie used to store her raisins and Cheetos, great combination, I know. Allie has taken it over, and took it in the bathroom during her bath so "Caleb not get it". My boys are big football fans and will be snacking during the game with Papa. Maybe Allie will share it with them then!

    To-Do Tuesday Week 3

    It's been hectoc this week already! I helped my aunt move over the weekend. It's amazing how much stuff you can get into a one-bedroom apartment! I hope to get my MRI results read this week, but my family doc/gyno have referred me out of town. They wouldn't tell me my results over the phone though. How unnerving is that?!

    Preserve Life's Memories With Scan Digital

    The special moments in our life cannot be recreated. But, with today's technology, we can preserve and cherish them now and in the years to come with photo scanning. Digital cameras are relatively new, and most everyone has special moments captured on print. Remember the days when you'd take your roll of film from vacation to be developed and hope that you got some great shots?

    We're in the process of preserving photos of my late grandmother and grandfather, and other old photographs that we want to last.  Going through her things after she passed, we realized many of her photos are stained, wilted, and torn. We're trying to salvage them.

    Scan Digital provides photo scanning services that will preserve all of lives special moments. We should have done this years ago. You can easily compose all your photos to cd to easily show at your next family reunion. Your family will appreciate it, now and in the future.   You also can upload them to an online photo album to view from anywhere you have access to a computer and the Internet.
